About the Haworthia Society Web Site
The purpose of this web site is to encourage others to grow and study these fascinating plants.
Philosophy
The Haworthia Society Web Site is intended to inform potential Society Members of the services that the Society can provide and hopefully interest and inform them further about these and related plants.
The whole website is intentionally devoid of gimmicks, gizmos and things that pop up in the night!
Perhaps unusually, it has not been constructed using one of the many website engines available, but has been hand written to strict HTML4.01 standards.
This takes a bit longer but, as a result, there is no superfluous code. Consequently, as you may have observed, it loads like lightning.
Also, as you may already have realized, it has all the qualities required for a good home page for your computer.
Anyway - we like it!
History
The Haworthia Society has had a presence on the web for some years, but, by 2002, the Committee was aware that it needed attention. Fortunately, the Chairman's brother-in-law, Bob Minors "volunteered" to help.
He set to and wrote the code for the site from scratch, using material from Members and the Society's Journal, Haworthiad. The site address was acquired and registered by the Society, and hosted by Tony Mace of Cactus Mall fame.
His work complete, Bob Minors handed the site over in October 2003 to his brother, Chris Minors, who now maintains and updates it and adds to it as suitable material becomes available.
